Today is the day when Dad's around the world get to sleep in. They receive heart shaped toast and spilled juice in bed. Old Spice soap-on-a-rope adorns shower heads everywhere, homemade cards in the shape of ties decorate the fridge and at supper time the smell of BBQ'd steak emerges from every backyard on the block. Today is Father's Day.
Nicholas and Jacob did their part in making Ron feel special this Father's Day. Nick had some hand-made treasures, carefully wrapped that he just couldn't wait to give his Daddy. He made a painted rock with a dog on it (hint hint) and a card at school. To top it off the boys got up early and decided to make something else. When I got up there was a trail of sparkles, buttons, popsicle sticks and paper all over the rec room floor. No glue thank goodness. Amongst the mess were two beautifully crafted popsicle stick frames that held pictures of themselves. How can you be mad at that?
This is the first Father's Day that I am celebrating without mine. We visited Dad's gravesite today and left some flowers. Jacob was trying to dig a hole to let Grandpa out. It's a tough one to explain to a three year old. In church today the Major talked about reaching out to your Dad wherever he is. Pick up the phone. Say hello. As sad as today was, there was a reassurance that not all kids have; I know that no matter where I am or what I am doing, my Dad is on the other end of that phone if I want him to be!

Glad you were able to enjoy the day Laura! Is there a dog in your future?
No puppy in this house. My boys have a hard enough time keeping up with the Hamster. Besides... I may have to move out due to the sneezing. On the other hand... if a cute littel boxer or Golden Retriever showed up at my door - I'd have a hard time sending it away.
