A few weeks ago we started allowing Nicholas to ride his bike to end of the street by himself. It's only a couple of blocks but he feels so proud and so big with this new found Independence. This is where he discovered a whole new world. A place where Moms, Dads and especially little brothers are not welcome. He calls it "The Secret Place."
After supper tonight, Nicholas decided to invite us to his "Secret Place"; so the boys hopped on their bikes and off we went. There is a big open field, some prickly grass, bushes, wood, old pieces of furniture that people have dumped and best of all remnants of an old tree fort. It's a crab apple tree and Nicholas has made himself a little spot between two branches about 1/2 way up. Not too high that he would get scared. But not too low where others could see him. It is complete with leaves for a pillow and a birds nest full of crab apples that doubles as ammunition for on comers.
"The Secret Place" is a place to build memories, to be a boy and to hide from his mom at bed time! I am so glad he shared it with me!

You should be very proud that he shared his secret place with you. Thanks to modern technology however, it is no longer a secret!
