Imaginary Friend

My little Jacob has an imaginary friend. Actually not just one but two imaginary friends. Their names are Selina and Pickles. I used to have a hamster named Pickles although I believe this is more coincidental than anything.

Selina and Pickles have been many places with us. The park, the grocery store, Grandma's and the Football field. They have sat up for supper, complete with fully dished up portions just for them. The other night I actually made the mistake of sitting down in my regular spot at the dinner table... "Noooooooo...", said Jacob, "You almost sat on Pickles."

Pickles and Jake really don't get along very well. Why they are friends I don't know. From what I have seen (through my son's imagination) the little guy is kind of annoying. He reminds me of Caillou.

Selina is Jacob's "girlfriend". I questioned him on this tonight because it was my understanding that his one true (non-imaginary) love was Deanna, my friend Anne Marie's little girl. His response was quite cute. "They are both my girlfriends Mommy. They are both great at sharing."

As long as he doesn't take this approach into his adolescence he'll be ok.
