Fumble Forcin' Football

The LMFA season kicked off today with Nick's 10:00 am tyke game in St. Thomas. They were playing his buddy Andrew's team and Nick was both nervous for the game and excited to have Andrew over after the game to play.

Alex, Andrew's older brother, is Jacob's best buddy in the whole entire world. They adore each other and Alex kept him busy for the entire game so I could watch! Thanks Alex!

Nicholas played an amazing game. He had a couple of great tackles and even forced a fumble in the last quarter of the game that made the Hawks hang on to their lead and win the tight 30 - 28 game. He came off the field just beaming and the coach even lifted him high in the air to congratulate him on his fabulous play.

It was exactly what he needed. Nick's self esteem is low to begin with and when he was placed at the Corner postion again this year he was really down on himself. "I don't want to play corner. I played that last year. I want to learn something different. They put the bad players at the corner position." No matter how much of the contrary we told him and explained to him he still felt this way.

This game showed him that he can make things happen. When you play hard, try your best and make the best of the situation you are dealt, look what can happen!

A way of thinking to follow for not only the game of football... but for the game of life!

Nick was exhausted (and stinky... I seriously didn't know a 9 year old could smell that bad) at the end of the game. Not tired enough to pass up McDonalds for lunch and some play time with Andrew though!
